Senate Letter

Senator Erin Lynch Prata
Senate Committee on Judiciary

March 5, 2018

Dear Senator Lynch Prata,

Founded in 1876, Newport Rifle Club is the oldest continuously operating rifle club in the United States.

We are a community of 643 law-abiding members who focus on firearms safety, education and competition. We count among our members several nationally ranked competitors in a variety of disciplines and have recently sent 5 of our junior rifle team members on to four-year full athletic scholarships at NCAA Division 1 schools. One of them is a two-time NCAA champion and another nearly earned a seat on the 2008 Olympic team.

Within our membership are university professors, doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, policemen, firemen, artists, business owners, tradesmen, laborers and students, as well as active duty and retired military personnel. Our membership is 20% female, a number that is increasing year over year. We are a cross-section of society.

We are the mainstream and we vote.

We support the following Senate bills: S2134 and S2148.

We oppose the following Senate bills: S2271, S2274, S2276, S2289, S2292, S2319, S2455, S2456, S2492, S2493, S2606, S2615.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
