Pistol Competitions
Ocean State Pistol League (OSPL)
The OSPL consists of 11 teams from different Rhode Island gun clubs. Dual matches are held each Wednesday evening from mid-September until mid-March. Matches are conducted with .22 caliber pistols shooting the National Match Course of fire. The top 5 scores for each club count as team scores.
Practical Pistol (Action Pistol)
Monthly action pistol matches using modified IDPA rules. Practical Pistol matches are the only opportunity at NRC to draw and fire from a holster, under supervision of a safety officer. Scoring is based upon accuracy, elapsed time, and observation of safety procedures.
Winter In-House League
The internal league competition is held for 10 weeks between January and March. Each competitor shoots 10 targets per discipline on their own schedule. Disciplines include rimfire pistol, centerfire pistol, and rimfire rifle.
Rifle Competitions
Rhode Island High Power League (RIHPL)
Teams from various Rhode Island area clubs competing using NRA's High Power National Match rules. Matches are held at Copicut Rifle Association, South County Rod & Gun Club, and Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club monthly from May through October. Each match is a 41-shot course of fire at ranges between 200 and 300 yards.
Rifles of the Snow
A 40-shot course of fire using military bolt action rifles with iron sights, as issued. Competitors must be qualified for outdoor range use. Held 9:00 AM–11:00 AM.
Battle of the Bulge Match
Annual rifle match commemorating WWII's Battle of the Bulge, using any rifle that would have been found in that theater during the period. Competitors must be qualified on the outdoor range.
31-shot course of fire:
Offhand: 10 shots in 10 minutes on two reduced silhouettes at 50 yards
Rapid Prone: 10 shots in 60 seconds on reduced silhouette at 100 yards (mandatory magazine change)
Slow Prone: 10 shots in 10 minutes on reduced silhouette at 100 yards
Bonus: Single prone shot at a tank silhouette at 100 yards — closest hit wins a prize
Muzzleloader Matches
Muzzleloader Matches
Monthly matches held on the outdoor range. Any muzzleloading rifle or pistol may be used. Members must be qualified to shoot muzzleloaders on the outdoor range. Matches vary between hunters' walks and formal target shoots.
