Our History
About the Newport Rifle Club
Newport Rifle Club is the oldest continuously operating rifle club in the United States of America. The club was founded in 1876 by W. Milton Farrow, said to be the best rifle shot in America during the last quarter of the 19th Century.
Winner of numerous long-distance competitions at home and abroad, Farrow authored a book, How I Became a Crack Shot and Hints to Beginners, which is still in print. He started Farrow Arms Co. to manufacture guns of his design, considered to be among the finest target rifles ever produced.
Newport Rifle Club is a private organization that offers its members a wide variety of shooting options, training, and competition. From Bullseye Pistol to CMP high power rifle to muzzleloaders, shooters ranging from youngsters to seniors — from beginners to advanced — can learn the basics or advance their skills to nationally and internationally ranked levels.

Competition
NRC hosts in-house competitions including muzzleloader and pistol/rifle marksmanship, as well as statewide individual and team leagues.

Education
Classes on firearms safety, introduction to firearms, gun care, and marksmanship. NRA certified instructors available for 1-on-1 coaching.

Community
Always welcoming new members. Monthly meetings, annual cookout, members-only forum, and regular volunteer opportunities.

Range Details
Our Ranges
Ian Kearfoot Outdoor Range
A 9-port, 100-yard outdoor range with overhead safety baffles. Open 9 AM to sunset all year long. Members must be qualified to use the outdoor range.
Raymond V. Mosher Indoor Range
50-foot indoor range with 8 ports and a HEPA filtration system. Available to members and their guests 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Upstairs Range & Classroom
Used for Junior Rifle Team training, club meetings, and NRA instruction courses. Monthly club meetings are held here at 7:30 PM.
Range Hours
Outdoor Range: 9 AM – Sunset, year-round

Membership Details
Membership
Join the oldest continuously operating rifle club in the United States. There are currently plenty of openings for new members.
Requirements include: joining a pro-Second Amendment organization (NRA, GOA, SAF, or 2AC), completing 8 hours of volunteer work in your first year, and attending a new member orientation.
